BOATERS INFO SESSION

This Wednesday at Sandringham Yacht Club, ORCV played host to a very valuable and informative session with guest speakers from Ports Victoria, Safe Transport Victoria - Maritime, and the Waterpolice. Topics covered included:

  • The role of Ports Victoria, the Harbour Master and Vessel Traffic Services

  • The Keep Clear safety campaign

  • Harbour Master’s Directions for recreational vessels in the Port of Melbourne waters

  • The importance of keeping clear of ships in the shipping channels

  • Notices to Mariners, recent incidents with lessons learned,

  • The new Marine Safety Regulations regarding flares, VHF radios and changes to Lifejacket Standards

  • The Water Police's marine search and rescue capabilities and their fleet of boats.

There was also an extensive Q and A session with an enthused audience of boaters. Further sessions are in the planning and BIAV will continue to alert members and boaters.
