SERVICING - IMPORTANT

Today BIAV received government feedback in the form of this FAQ list.

Most importantly, the list states in relation to boat servicing, as follows —- Travel can only occur for the permitted reasons which includes access to necessary goods or services within 15km of your home (or the closest option if unable to be accessed within 15km) goods and services includes vehicle and mechanical repair services. (This does not extend to travelling from metro to regional for such purposes.)

This is good news for those that need to get their boat to a service centre, for a scheduled, pre-season safety check and service, if they live more than 15km away. All covid safety protocols obviously apply.

For those waiting to go boating that live more than 15km from their nearest access point, unfortunately this limitation is still in place. We will continue to talk with the government and hope to get those people back on the water for their physical and mental exercise ASAP.

BIAV is also seeking further advice as to whether people can do preparation, service and safety work on their own boat if it is in an outdoor yard, not at their home. Such as at a boatyard or club. At this stage, this is not confirmed.
