FUNDING A BETTER BOATING FUTURE FOR ALL VICTORIANS

BIAV is very pleased to see the Better Boating Fund legislation being progressed. Most BIAV members will be well aware of what a huge priority this has been for BIAV and the industry over a very long time, so this is in summary is very good progress and very good news. That said, there have been some reservations in terms of the passage of money into and out of the fund and how that works. The actual legislation leaves this a little open-ended.

We are however working through this with the Minister and are somewhat comforted by the Second Reading Speech of the Minister that clearly stipulates that every cent of registration and license fee income will be placed into the Fund. The Second Reading Speech also goes on to outline its usages as being for boating specific purposes, as is our expectation. We will stay very close to this as it works through Parliament, and once in place, to how it is applied.
