BIAV FORUM FOR MEMBERS
Meeting: BIA Vic forum for members: Hull Identification Number and vessel condition inspection programs
Time & Date: 5:30pm on Tuesday 26 March
Location: Life Saving Victoria, 200 The Boulevard, Port Melbourne
Chair: Gareth Johnson, Manager – Recreational Boating Safety (MSV)
Maritime Safety Victoria (MSV) is developing a position paper on a vessel inspection scheme for recreational vessels in Victoria. This paper will identify current safety issues within the Victorian fleet and propose methods by which MSV as a safety regulator can be satisfied that the safety of people on the water is maintained at a reasonable level.
A workshop is being held 5:30pm on Tues 26th March at Life Saving Victoria, 200 The Boulevard, Port Melbourne to test the capacity of the dealer/ retailer/ repairer sector of the industry to deliver the functions required for an inspection scheme. We will be discussing the elements of identifying vessels, applying standards to vessels and how industry members can provide feedback. MSV has also developed an online survey which you can complete prior to the evening session (whether you are attending or not). The responses to this survey will provide information to inform our decision making.
