From the CEO – 140218

SteveWalker_smlWe were delighted last week to announce RACV Marine as naming rights sponsor of the RACV Marine Melbourne Boat Show. Partnering with this iconic Victorian brand provides the Boat Show with great potential to reach new audiences in both general public and corporate spaces. We look forward to working with Neil James and the team at RACV Marine.

Meanwhile, exhibitor space and support sponsor opportunities are fast filling. Please contact for more details.

During my first few weeks in the CEO role I’ve also been fortunate to meet with many of our members and I thank them for the welcome, as well as for the industry advice and insight. There are some common themes coming through and priorities being emphasised including effective advocacy, alternative events and revenue streams, improved access to the water, and member benefits. Focussing on the advocacy area, there is extensive work underway in terms of lobbying for a significantly greater share of marine licence and boat registration revenue, and  for it to be allocated to boating facilities and infrastructure. There is also work going into the recent Marine Act amendments and how clubs and boating event organisers can be protected, as well as a fight over the Northern border about the ban on wakeboarding in certain stretches of the Murray. We shall keep you posted as these and other issues progress.

Congratulations to Parks Victoria on the launch last week of the Port Arlington Safe Harbour. This is a great outcome for the Bellarine, for destination boating and for Victoria and it was great to attend the launch along with the State MP for the Bellarine, Lisa Neville, as well as colleagues from Parks Victoria, VR Fish and several clubs, and to see it first-hand. It is worth the trip. You can read more below about this.

Could I encourage our members to consider Marine Super as an option for their staff and themselves. The fees, at .69% are less than half of many funds, the returns have been strong, and doing so will be supporting your industry through BIAV, who Marine Super has been set up for to support members.

Please save the date for the BIAV Annual General Meeting to conclude the last financial period.  This is an important meeting for you to attend so that you can be informed on the activities and finances of your Association.  It’s also an opportunity for you to provide your member feedback and elect members to the BIAV Board.  The AGM will be held on Wednesday, 18th of April at 5 pm at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.  More information will be forthcoming.

I hope you enjoy the read and look forward to seeing you at a BIAV event or on a visit to your business.
