BIAV Awards 2017 Victorian Marine Apprentice of the Year

DSC_0365smlThe Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIAV), has awarded the 2017 Victorian marine Apprentice of the Year to Dougie Bauer at the 2017 Melbourne Boat Show on Monday, 19 June 2017.

He is currently completing a Certificate 3 in Marine Mechanical Technology at Chisholm Institute and is employed by JV Marine World in Braeside.  He was among four apprentices from throughout Victoria to be nominated for the award.

Dougie was chosen as the recipient of the award for his significant skills, dedication and behaviour both at school, the workplace and involvement with the community.

Also nominated for the award were:

  • Jordan Farquhar – undertaking a Certificate 3 in Marine Craft Construction at GOTAFE and working at Gippsland Ports/ Paynesville Boatyard;
  • Claire Bland – undertaking a Certificate 3 in Automotive and Marine Trimming Technology at Holmesglen Institute, working at Peninsula Marine Covers; and
  • Stefan Bonnici – undertaking a Certificate 3 in Marine Mechanical Technology at Kangan Institute and working for Mic’s Marine Services.

“Dougie has demonstrated the values of learning by performing tasks in the workplace well above the level of a third-year apprentice,” said Michael Barlow, teacher at Chisholm Institute.

“He has also shown initiative in the workplace by being proactive and putting forward great ideas that are now being implemented by other staff members within his workplace.”

“The BIAV are very proud to be supporting apprentices working in the marine industry and all the employees and Victorian education and training institutions helping to equip them with a promising career,” said BIAV President Mark Crockford.

“Having a highly skilled, job-ready and motivated workforce is essential for an enduring marine industry. And BIAV want to recognise the hard work and dedication these young individuals have made towards achieving a successful career pathway in the industry.”

The BIAV Apprentice of The Year Award recognizes the achievements and endeavours of an outstanding young individual undertaking a Victorian apprenticeship in the marine industry.
